To the People

I watched SportsCenter last night and was totally bummed that hockey is back, as if it matters. The coverage is far too disporportionate -- it should be on the level of Major League Soccer.

Well, some of us think that ANY sports coverage is way too much.

My problem with hockey isn't that it bores me (it's a SPORT...of COURSE it bores me!) but rather that, despite the fact that it would seem to be the most naturally weather-dependent sport in existence, the season lasts FOREVER. Baseball mercifully ends with the world series and football with the superbowl, but hockey just keeps droning on and on and on until you want to go out and kill something.

I actually would love to see more soccer coverage. I know it has been said on this blog that soccer matters not. But I disagree, I think it is the most interesting sport to watch - and I am NOT a sports fan in general. But the other stuff just puts me to sleep. Basketball can keep my attention a bit, but baseball and especially football - snooze city. The best thing at the Superbowl in recent years to me was Janet's boob.

So I watch the spanish language stations for my soccer fix.

The only great thing about soccer is that it has running time, which doesn't lend itself to excessive commercial interruption. In the NFL, an "official timeout" is the euphemism for "commerical break."

Either rugby or Australian rules football are much more enjoyable to watch (and play probably -- I can attest to rugby).

Hurling combines the best aspects of soccer and hockey, it seems.

It just occurred to me that TtP types probably don't know what hurling is:
