Oh, yeah, hey, that's right, Cicero. Only impeaching Dubya can save our republic.
And what happens when he's impeached? Oh, yeah, Mistah Cheney, he gon' restore our libuhteez.
As much as I agree that he should be impeached, I cannot share your over-the-top fantasies about what that would actually accomplish. They're all crooked, all the way down, man! Impeaching Bush won't do much, except put an even more horrific cunt into the Oval Office. Whoopee.
Both "major" parties continually conspire to achieve the same end: more power for the political class; less power for the citizenry. Even if we impeached the entire administration (which we should!), I think it's pretty safe to say that any predecessor that the idiot American voting public would vote into office would just continue on this march towards despotism.
In other words, short of a miracle involving a complete overthrow/overhaul of the two-party beaurocratic power-eating machine, we're fucked.
But, hey, I hope it feels good entertaining your dreams of saving our nation. Don't let me rain on your parade...

Evan is right that impeachment is not the correct sentiment. What we really need to do is limit the power of the Executive branch by way of new constitutional amendments (yeah, I know - unlikely).
Also, it appears that history has proved A. Hamilton right. He said that if we enumerate our rights (Bill of Rights), we are going to have to list them ALL - because the courts sure have made a crapfest of the ninth amendment.

Impeachment is too noble an exit and involves those douches in the House, who aren't any better than the President. I prefer they all resign en masse -- and the Senate and TSC may as well go, too, while we're at it... And then they all should be replaced by black labs or some other cute dog breed.

Evan raises some good points that they'll just appoint another president, but once we start down the road of impeaching presidents who act like they're above the law presidents will start thinking twice before acting like they're above the law. Sure Cheney would replace Bush, but I bet he would stop claiming that the White House is immune from congressioanl and court oversight.
As for WLS, I'm all for limiting government through constitutional amendments. But, this won't stop presidents who claim to be above the law. The truth is the courts cannot enforce constitutional amendments. The executive branch can do what it wants. The only way to stop the drift towards dictatorship is the impeachment of presidnets who claim they're above the law.
I think the big difference between Bush and other presidents is that he's the first one to claim that he is above the law. He, as well as Cheney and others, are claiming that the constitution gives the president absolute powers that cannot be restrained. Any one who says that should be impeached. If Congress won't impeach the president for violating laws Congress passes and the courts won't limit the president's actions, what's left????

I think that it's really encumbent on Congress to rein in the President, though I think they are more focused on re-election campaigns and divisive issues than the actual business of governing. What scares me most is that no one seems to care about any of this except for the wonker fringe like us.

I agree with you and wish more people would see this. And our idiotic Congress gave him the ho ahead to abuse his power. Not only impeach Bush, but vote every single member of Congress out.
