To the People

This program seems like typical Congressional overreaction. Congress does two things only: nothing, or overreact. It seems to me that it is pretty simple to determine whether a person is legal to work or not. Simply ask a social security number and/or birth certificate/passport. It makes much more sense to enforce existing laws than to adopt sweeping laws that will have broad and potentially unforeseen consequences.

Leonardo, the problem with that is the proliferation of fraudulent documents. Many employers unknowingly hire undocumented workers because of falsified information such as stolen social security numbers.

Wish I could get my Senators to oppose this bill. Sigh...

Alan, touche.

Transplant this issue to the NICS firearm background-check system. In that system, legislation requires that sellers allow up to 2 days (IIRC) for the transaction to complete, so 7-10 SECONDS seems optimistic. Further, if NICS is only 80% to 90% accurate, then what good is it?
