To the People

wow, talk about a mafia. If you can't buy out your competition just take them over by force!

Having a single token international destination, like Toronto, is a fairly standard dodge for small regional airports that want the prestige and occasional federal money that comes from putting "International" in their names. There are a lot of dinky little international airports around.

"There are a lot of dinky little international airports around."

Hobart Iternational Arport for example. Flies from a forgotten southern island in Australia (Tasmania) to Christchurch in a forgotten southern island in New Zealand. Total populatino served about 500,000.

Or better yet, there's a service from the Shetland Islands in Scotland to the Faroes (part of Denmark). I'm sure both tin sheds have a sign saying "international airport".
