This horse deserves particular human empathy because it was particular human activity (racing) that could have led to his demise without particular human intervention (team of surgeons).

To say so doesn't compare him to a person.

Like Paul McCartney's ex-wife for example.

Both of them made twice as much as I did this year by having a short guy ride them for a little bit before hoping to the bank with bags of cash.
