To the People

gay marriage is certainly less degrading to the institution of marriage than a heterosexual 5-minute Elvis wedding in Las Vegas.

Also, Las Vegas should change its motto to "The money you bring to Las Vegas will end up staying in Las Vegas." Or maybe Atlantic City could take that on as its motto (judging by the money I lost on blackjack there a few weeks ago). Trump, are you reading this?

Britney Spears' 15 hour wedding comes to mind on this topic. For all gay people who cannot marry that was particularly galling. If Sens Frist and Santorum really believe that marriage is "under attack" by 3,000 gay people in MA agreeing with them that marriage is important then I think they are guilty of some serious dissembling. This is also known as shameless pandering to win elections.

I've often wondered about the applicability of gay marriage in one state as applied to another state. How is it that Full Faith & Credit does not apply? Wouldn't that supercede any federal or state legislation prohibiting recognition of a valid marriage certificate issued by a state? I'm honestly asking here, no one has ever explained to me why other states can Constitutionally refuse to recognize a marriage certificate validly issued by the authority of a U.S. state. Congress is only allowed to influence the process of such recognition by other states, not prohibit it, as far as I can tell.
