The fact that anyone has to consider legislation to eliminate the penny is stupid. Just stop making the damn things until it's economically feasible to make them again. Why wait for stupid acts of Congress?

I can see the day when, after legislation has passed eliminating the penny, the price of making a one cent coin drops to 0.2 cents and it takes years and years before the coins get minted again because the proper legislation isn't passed.

You could just as easily help the mining interests by eliminating the dollar bill and replacing it with the dollar coin. But I suppose the paper/linen industry would get bent out of shape over the fact that we'd have dollar currency that lasts almost forever versus currency that has a life of only 18 months.
