I never understood how gay people wanting to marry each other hurts marriage. Isn't it a form of supporting marriage? And if marriage is all about children then why can a straight couple in their 80s marry? Or John Kerry and Teresa Heinz?

Again, this all comes down to divisive government taxation and benefit policies. If we had no income tax, inheritence tax or social security this would all be moot as gay people wouldn't care about government marriage as all citizens would be treated equally regardless of marital status.
