but seriously the drinking age was 19 in nj when i was young and i don't think there were any more or less probs than there are today.

I think lowering the drinking age back to 18 would probably slow down binge drinking and the deaths that come with it, especially at college. When young people have to hide to drink they tend to drink a lot more because it's a big deal. When they live at home and have to dodge parents and people that know them they are more careful. When they are on their own for the first time they have no supervision these things get out of control much more quickly. When I was that age and could go sit in a public bar like an adult I think a lot fewer people binged to the extent that people died or had permanent organ damage.

I say force feed kids shots of liquor at age 4 until they puke. Do this for a week straight and they won't ever want to drink again.
