To the People

I can't believe it passed. I hope Wal-Mart and Target pull out of Chicago as they threatened to do if it did pass. What a nightmare of a joke this is.

I think I posted it here or somewhere else but I used to love Chicago until about the past year.

i'm not sure if i have ever considered chicago a big libertarian/free market town - well except for the u of c. it has always struck me as a big government machine. on the other hand, it is one of the cooler cities i have ever been in and certainly ever lived in.

Chicago hasn't been a particularily free city in the 25ish years I've been alive, and looking back I don't really see a time when it was. This nanny-state garbage is just the latest example, but we've been dealing with rampant corruption, police torture, and the wholesale violation of civil liberties for as long as anyone can remember.

The next time you sit back and talk about the way Chicago "used to be" I'd suggest you think back to the '68 convention.

Except for the politics and the weather and the Cubs and Ozzie Guillen, Chicago's a great place.

I agree, hopefully all business affected by this bill will just pull out of Chicago. Its a small amount to lose in one city to prove a point to the general populous.

Add Santa Monica to the list: smoking banned on beaches, parks, and now the 3rd street promenade and within 20 feet of any door or window open to the public everywhere in the city.
