To the People

i will say one luxury of living in the northeast my whole life is a near total lack of snakes. i've seen about 5 small harmless snakes in my 25 years in CT, PA, and NJ. We did have a dickload of spiders at my moms old house on the edge of a protected swamp in CT, but you get used to that.

If it has cat eyes, walk determinedly the other way. No, it may not kill you (though it might), but it will make the flu seem like a party.

If it has round eyes, you're safe. But either way, just leave it alone. More people get killed trying to kill snakes than by accidental bites.

wait, your garden is in the southeast?

Keith,

I'm from New England, so this is all new to me, too.

Sandy,

Thanks for the tip. I think my new policy is, "If it has eyes, walk the other way."

Minerva,

Yes. Since a good portion of Virginia (part of the Southeast) is northwest of me, most definitely.
