To the People

Disgraceful...

I'm morally opposed to shooting an animal myself, but if someone else wants to do it, who gives a fuck? and by morally opposed, I should say 'not interested.'

BTW, I am not morally opposed to eating their delicious flesh.

Give them a little credit. Being an "animalover" in today's world dominated by omnivores must generate a significant amount of emotional impotence - worse than that of libertarians. Many people sympathize with at least a couple things libertarians have to say, but with these ALF types, most people just think they're crazy. That's what makes them froth at the mouth like this. Either that, or they actually are crazy, or maybe they just start to resemble animals.

FWIW -- The FBI has officially designated these animal liberation folks as our #1 domestic terror threat.

As terrible as 9/11 was, it remains one of the few successful attacks Islamic radicals have had on our soil (knock on wood). ALF and related groups have managed a series of attacks over several years ranging from vandalism to firebombings.

And they have mainstream friends. A few years ago I interviewed the head of PETA, Ingrid Newkirk, for a story on ALF. She compared them to French resistance in WWII. (She also had a few nice words for Al Qeada too.)

I know some people think animal rights types are fun because they are always getting famous actresses to pose semi-nude for their propaganda, but there is a much darker side to these people. The message board comments Rob posted neatly illustrate this.

I don't know why hunting is worse than buying meat at Safeway. Animal rights activists are so angry. I understand their environmental argument, which has merit, but to get so exercised over man doing what man has done since he was Cro Magnon-- kill and eat animals-- is over the top.

I would rather see PETA et al focus on turning Americans farms back to growing food that we can eat instead of corn for ethanol and HFCS. It burns me that in the prime of summer the supermarket veggies are all imported from Mexico and basically suck. Federal farm subsidies and energy policies cause this insanity. Getting Iowa out of the early primary process would do a lot more for good use of land than will taunting dead children who hunted.

Nit-picking, I'm sure, but...

"He'll arrange to send to the Pichettes a .306 calibre rifle designed with smaller kids in mind..."

I think you meant .308, right ?
