To the People

Technically, it is unconstitutional. But there needs to be an amendment. Fuck, South Dakota and Wyoming and Alaska have fewer peeps than we do and they each have two Senators.

I oppose giving Utah another rep, what a joke. I know that is a trade-off but each district ought to be able to vote without a contrary party opposite.

Plus, many Republicans, like me, are registered Dem in the District to be able to vote in the primaries.

I need to put a post up but if the representation means so much to you...

MOVE. It is unconsitutional, DC was not established as a state, and shouldn't have any representation in congress. It is a choice to live in DC and a choice you make full aware of the consequences. Be like the millions of others that live in MD or VA if you care so much about having representation in congress...What am I missing?

and leo i'm with you on primaries..when i was in south carolina in made since to be a reg republican, i'v been meaning to switch my affilation to democrat since i moved back to md so that i at least get one chance to cast a vote that matters...i think republicans are outnumbered 9-1 in baltimore

I maintain that the residential areas of DC should be ceded back to Maryland and the District should consist of Congress, the Supreme Court building, the Mall, the White House, etc. and the surrounding areas. Nobody but the President and his family should live there, and he shouldn't technically be a resident. Nothing but monuments and office buildings otherwise.

The more logical reading is that since the "Seat of Government" is located on land ceded from one or more states, the residents within the ceded territory would retain the franchise within the original states. Ergo, D.C. residents are entitled to vote for members of Congress from Maryland.

The problem with Cicero's argument is that it would give a state the ability to disenfranchise its own citizens by ceding territory for use as the Seat of Government.
