Being self-employed I would rather have Canadian health care than what I have now. I pay for my own insurance and every time I use it, such as when I cut my finger and needed stitches, my rate goes up. If I get a bad illness, they can drop me.

I pay about 60% of my income in taxes as I own a small business and get punished for that. Please tell me how someone like me would not be better off in Canada or the UK?

As a self-employed person would you be better off health care-wise in Canada or the UK? Maybe; I don't know. Certainly socialized care is better than no care for those who can't afford it.

My post wasn't about the big question of what the perfect system is or should be. It was about this particular case of how a government bureaucracy decided to pull the plug on a guy's life, doing it over the wishes of his family. Somehow, I dunno, it seemed newsworthy to me.
