To the People

Their test reminds of those flyers that I used to get in college. You know, the ones where a yes to any of fifty questions means you "might be an alcoholic". Seriously, I answered never to three out of the four and less than monthly to the first(I'm sure I've had more than 8 units in day more often than never in the past year), and it concluded that my drinking may be a problem.

Why are the limits for women always lower than those for men? Is it based on weight/height generalities, some physiological reason or the assumption that women shouldn't drink like Richard Burton?

i'm 100% for women drinking as much if not more than men....

that being said i think the guidelines are based on weight. but we are not talking about a totally rational, scientific set of guidelines.

Leonardo--

Height/weight generalities, and also body composition generalities. More body fat (which women, on average, have) means less body water, and therefore, the same quantity of alcohol raises the BAL faster in (most) women than in (most) men.

I answered the same as David, which means I also "may have a problem". Then I changed all my answers to "daily and got...the exact same result.

I used to drink a lot more. I guess I may as well again...
