To the People

As an energy lawyer, and someone who spends quite a lot of time going to renewables lectures and the like, I have to say that some of the new flourescent technology is quite impressive and doesn't give off the disgusting greenish blue tinge of past incarnations.

That being said, talk of banning incandescent bulbs is yet another boneheaded proposal by people who like to pat themselves on the back over how "green" they are.

There is so much that can be done to conserve energy without requiring a massive legislative overhaul, i.e., only running full loads in laundry machines, driers and dishwashers, using public transportation or walking or biking, not to mention a serious discussion of nuclear energy. All of these means can be discussed in PSAs or taken up by the press.

I fear that the latest proposal does more to hurt the renewables debate than help it . . . .

Forget about the aesthetics for a moment. Every new-fangled fluorescent bulb I've purchased comes with a warning that says it should not be used in an enclosed fixture. How much is it going to cost people to replace light fixtures? Did any of these assholes think of that?
