To the People

An attorney friend of mine is having this dilemma with a couple of his clients:

If you are in a downtown or otherwise dense commercial area, and pacing off 25 feet from your door (or 50 feet in Ohio I believe) puts you within 25 feet of the door of the neighboring building, are you in compliance with the law? Are you, as a business, required to shoo non-employees, potentially including pedestrians, away from your "smoke-free" zone?

Yeah, Seattle folks have issues. Mostly I love living here, but there are too damn many nanny government types. I don't suppose you've been following our esteemed mayor and his war on strip clubs...

No, but I've heard some grumblings about it last night from locals.

Any must hit bars/areas?

All the must hit bars/areas (especially strip bars) are in Portland. And you have about one more year to smoke. The nannies haven't quite caught up yet here.

A mandatory 25 feet...yet another glorious victory for the National Socialist Progressive Workers' Party. Hopefully the city will soon raise the chocolate ration from 10 oz per week to 8 oz per week.

You must be in a different part of seattle then the parts I frequent. Go anywhere in capitol hill, the U district, or Pioneer square and you will find both the smokers and the ashtrays right outside the door. It's my impression that the 25ft rule is almost universally ignored.
