To the People

I lack the subscription to click through, but is that stat on the level? I'm out of the bottom 60% today, but spent quite a number of my work years in that demographic and that just doesn't sound right to me - especially since the tax system has only gotten less "progressive" since then. Of course, discussing income tax without considering sales, payroll and other taxes is an obvious piece of framing right there.

There's a real issue there, but it's not quite as bad as all that.

The tax system has gotten less progressive. Before Reagan cut the top marginal tax rates, you probably only needed the top 25 or 30% of income earners to pay 99% of the income tax.

Just saying, sorry to get back to you so late. It is misinformation that the system has gotten less progressive. It is much more so since the Clinton changes in 1994. The stats are overwhelming and I would love to share. The top 40% pay 99%, and that is according to the IRS. Email Baylen if you want to get in touch with me and I will share my data.

Have you researched the FAIRTAX concept @ FAIRTAX.ORG?
