my mother, who also lives in FL, and her dogs (15 lb. terriers) were chased by an alligator one night. She ran up some stairs and it chose not to follow. She even saved the dogs, which is impressive considering how confrontational terriers tend to be.

having grown up a good part of my life in florida - and in some of its least friendly parts, in my opinion, south florida - i can certainly advise against it. good place for a short vacation though, but the mosquitos and other animals there are almost as unpredictable and nasty as a lot of the people.

I'm not certain I'd be more scared of a bobcat than a man who can hold down a 25 lb. rabid bobcat and strangle it to death. It takes my wife and I to cut our 8lb. cat's nails.
