To the People

Screw taxation. Stop regulating electricity rates. What's the point of taxing an governmentally-regulated low rate?

I think that one of the major reasons politicians and idle enviornmentalists in the US are so willing to talk about these bans is because they think of it as a minor issue. The vast majority of new construction and renovation uses halogen lighting. All new high end (and most mid-priced) fixtures and styles use halogen. Its become ubiquitous on the high-end. As a result, most of the people discussing these bans aren't thinking about a choice between traditional incandescent bulbs and crappy flourescent, but between huge old-fashioned bulbs that no one they know uses and groovy new halogen lights.

But hey, why not screw over the poor if it's good for the enviornment, right? You need to have your priorities straight. Take one for the team...put on a extra sweater. You know the drill.

Russ you make a great point and I totally agree. The same politicians who advocate for lowering energy consumption also scream when utilities try to obtain a market rate. MD is a good example.

William, thanks for pointing out that halogen would be exempt from this ban. I was not sure as the press articles do not mention that point. I take comfort and feel less hysterical now as halogens emit great light.
