To the People

I adored WFB. I started reading his National Review in the early 80s and it was inspiring. I was brought up by left wing unionists and was freed from that dogma in no small part because of Buckley. In those days NR was a radical magazine of bold independent ideas that bears no resemblance to the current NR, which has become a simplistic booster of the Bush administration.

Regarding WFB's famous sailing trip to smoke pot, I think he actually sailed about 12 miles out, not three, as 12 is where water becomes neutral. In any event, what a classy act. He tried it.
