The insidious aspect of MD income taxation is the county income tax. I moved to MD thinking that 5% was not a horrible rate for state taxation. Then MoCo levied another 3.5% on top of the state rate. So when I moved to the District my tax rate was similar but I get the benefit of the drama and dysfunction, which I find entertaining.

Plus, the property tax rates in MoCo are v high. I was a renter so correct me if I am wrong, Rob, but doesn't MD also have a state-level property tax?

no, there isn't a state property tax..apparently it's a big issue for city property owners..

just got one of those canidate survey response things today, and the "one state, one rate" for propert tax was on there.
