To the People

More posts like this, please. Seriously. With photos. I love posts where the author goes somewhere to do something, whether it's fishing in Maryland or getting coffee and beignets in NOLA.

I'm a terrible fisherman. I aim for stripers but I'd settle for blues. I went out with my first-born on Sunday and caught zilch, even though the fish were jumping after the minnows. I think the bait (bunker) I was using was too big for the depth.

My pleasure, I love it..I've got more, plenty more...

Jackson, you have some prime surf-fishing spots in New England for stripers...

Where do you usually go?

that was rob

Rob,

I haven't gotten into surf-fishing yet. The wisdom around here seems to be to go to river mouths. I live very close to the water and so I go down to where a nearby river opens into the Sound. Strong currents, and I only go around high tide. The banks were packed on Sunday, but I didn't see anyone catching anything. Talked to one guy who said he caught a 21-lb. striper right by the train station/ferry terminal in Bridgeport Harbor and he kept it on a line in the water as he continued to fish. Said the blues came right up and tore it to shreds.

OK. Sounds similar to some inlet fishing i would do in SC. Yeah...for blues (and stripers) you would prob do better fising with artificial lures. Anything shad. Blues will tear it up.

Or, get a throw-net..get the oldest guys on the beach to show you the best toss for it..catch your ownbait..heres the key--catch your own bait, use that for bait to catch mullet or spot...then use that for cut bait...

i had a stoner buddy who had a shark setup...giant rod..huge open face rod....we would live line spot (hook the spot throw the back with a massive hook) hurl that shit way out there as you're wading way the fuck out there...and chum a little with cut bait....great fun
