And I don't own an iPod nor do I especially love them. I just know a crap excuse for bullshit when I see it.

I've had similar discussions with people over the sound of modern music, usually with responses similar to Sandy's. People seem to think it's an attack on the sacred Apple, but it is not. It is about how horrible the music they listen to constantly is being mixed. Alas, they simply do not care about quality, only about quantity. This might change as storage gets ever cheaper for more of it, allowing for better, lossless formats room to live. And pigs may fly.
