Well, he's a douche. But as long as he's going to be in the race, I'll take it as good news.

I doubt he's all that sincere, but given the speed at which smoking bans are sweeping the nation, I'll accept any opposition available.


i wouldn't really count him as opposition. if he had the opportunity to sign the bill, he would. his staff said as much in the clarification that they send to The Hill. he's trying to win some conservative street cred, and take back some of the conservative vote that has left him for thompson in south carolina.

it's transparently political, and to judge him on his nanny-state credentials when he was actually governing would in no way make you feel confident that he wouldn't make a push for a national smoking ban and god knows what else to save ourselves from ourselves.
