Nate, I don't know you but you just explained my life with my significant other of 14 years. I don't think you are oversimplfying it - you have it right on. A couple who is unmarried and chooses to live together as a couple and chooses to remain unmarried should be treated the same as a homosexual couple under the same circumstances for the same benefits. I actually don't care who wants to marry whom (so I am for legalizing gay marriage), but at least if such domestic partnership benefits are offered and only target homosexual couples, I think it is wrong; just as it would be wrong for domestic partnerships to exclude homosexual couples.

But I suppose the legal argument here is that it is a private company and they can do what they want? Yes, that is true. But it doesn't mean it is right simply because it is legal.
