It could be from burn scar erosion... or someone at 5000 feet draining detergent into the stream... or it could be that the water is too warm for some "unfathomable" reason....

As I understand it, the slurry the air tankers drop on the fires is also a fertilizer to promote new growth. Perhaps that is the source?
