And white is on move three. Apparently this program treats the first move as, "1. Pass Pass."

Gravatar That may be, but it is also possible that White's first three moves were:

1.c2-c3
2.c3-c4
3.d2-d3

Gravatar I believe the computer is showing half-moves. This is obviously poor notation, but it explains much.

1. White c4
2. Black f6
3. White d3

Gravatar Nope. You guys are looking at it all wrong. White is the grey pieces on the bottom. Black is gold on top.

Gravatar J'adoube - We have been looking at it that way.

I think CD may be on to something with the half-move idea. In any case, I'm not rushing out to buy this one (not that I own Blackberry anyway).

And, I suppose it's worth mentioning that the chess engine running the program might not be all that great. If the computer is playing black then it responded to c4 with f6?! and if white then after c4 f6 it chose d3 which isn't really bad but does seem rather passive.

Gravatar Hey, I've won quite a few blitz games with 1..f6, and it's slightly less ridiculous against 1.c4 than against other moves. What's not to love?
