I dont know what the correct way of teaching is. I only know that after having learned the rules it's best to learn tactics so one learns how pieces work together. After that one can learn endgames.

Offcourse, also playing must be a factor since one can learn many things but if one doesn't take time to implement it in ones game than it's a lost learning it.
