Boylston Chess Club

The image is not that of a cowqboy; It's a pioneer, a trailblazer.... The idea is i think that this is the first "sport's" team of any kind in Queens.

Gravatar It's an utterly inconsequential matter, of course--after all, it's the chess that counts, not the logo--but since we've started it why not see this trivial pursuit to its logical, if that's the word, conclusion?

A pioneer, not a cowboy? Well, maybe, but Queens is no more associated with one than the other. I say this not having any brilliant alternative ideas myself. The obvious ones--Archie Bunker, King of Queens--are misleading stereotypes and should be avoided. I understand from someone that Queens today is the most ethnically diverse place on earth. That's a wonderful claim to fame if true, and maybe some clever marketing person could do something creative with that.

Maybe the name and logo of the Queens team don't actually have to symbolize the borough, as long as they don't clash with it so conspicuously.

First sports team in Queens? The Mets don't count?

Okay, that's it; this is absolutely my last comment on the subject.

Maybe. For now, anyway.

Gravatar Hmm.... Diverse.

How about the Queens Rainbows? Maybe that is inappropiate for a chess team, but it does have some fun pun action.
A blitz of others:

The Queens Spectra?
The Queens Clubs?
The Queens Kings?
The Queens Knights?
The Queens Bishops?
The Queens Rooks?
The Queens Queens?

I give up.

Gravatar Rainbows -- that has possibilities.

And of course somebody ought to be able to do something with a borough named after the most powerful chess piece. I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

Gravatar Okay, what's wrong just the Queens Gambits?

Think of the headlines when they apply for membership in the USCL and Greg Shahade admits them:

"Queens Gambits Accepted" :o)

I'll stop now.
