How exactly does Blog Hijacking occur? Is it just that someone needs your password and thats it? Or is it that they have scripts programmed to take over your website if you are even a few minutes late on renewing?
I, too, don't understand. What do you mean? Has someone else just stepped in and taken over?
Most of the discussion on the web is focused on password protection. However, I think there is more going on than just guessing other people's passwords (not that I know what it is). Too many blogs get hijacked -- something like 40 chess blogs since I've been tracking them.
A lot of it has to do with password guessing, but some of it has to do with the software that people use for their blogs. Hijacking usually just means that someone defaces the front page of your website.
I wonder what J'adoube did that got his blog hijacked? Maybe they are all doing the same thing: they think they are just temporarily taking their blog down (for maintenance or something), but there is a horrible hole in blogger's security that can be exploited during this period. The way J'adoube's blog instantly was grabbed when he took it down (how did you take it down J'adoube?) suggests blogger might even be telling some company when bloggers take down their sites.
But usually I think people just want to stop blogging. If they are truly hijacked they'll do what J'adoube did: get another blog and go commenting on others' blogs to let them know what's up.
I miss Quandoman, that poor hijacked quando of a man.
I was looking at the recent posts on Ben Feingold's blog at Bloglines and noticed that his last post before being hijacked was an endorsement of Barak Obama's campaign. Do you suppose the Clinton's might have something do with the disappearance of his blog?
J'adoube's blog got hijacked and now the jerk that stole his blog posts these stupid star wars chess videos that arent any good.
Ben Finegold changed his to be that way on purpose for publicity.
