I thought that Johnny Most always gave the most fair and impartial analysis of Bill Laimbeer.

Interesting post, Mike. I just finished reading an interesting book about MMA, where the author is always interested in interviewing fighters right before or after a fight, because this is when they are the most emotionally vulnerable.
Normally, I would consider myself a mild-mannered person. Sometimes, however, when I'm playing 3/0 on ICC, down in the basement, after the kids are in bed, I can be heard exploding F-bombs, yelling out long streams of obscenities, when I lose. Anonymous ratings become f-ing bastards and sh*theads -- frustration, I guess. But, practicing controlling ones behavior is all part of the discipline we acquire as we make ourselves better players. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting worse as I age.
My basement is pretty isolated, but sometimes I scream so loud that my wife thinks I've gone nuts, and she wonders how this perceived mild game called chess can cause such outbursts. Of course, chess can bring out emotions just like other sports, but controlling these emotions is an important skill, and it's a skill most GMs have in spades, I suppose.

"pick the brain of your opponent to get their perspective."
That is my main motivation for participating in a post-mortem analysis with my opponent.

David Christian was originally charged with second-degree murder, but the 30-year-old plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter in Johnson County District Court.
...
Assistant Johnson County Attorney David Tiffany said the plea deal was influenced by the victim's family, who wanted Christian to receive help for his psychological problems.
...
Police say Christian and Michael Alan Steward were playing chess and drinking at Christian's residence on October 19, 2008 when a quarrel turned violent. They say Christian apparently trapped Steward's neck between his legs and squeezed until Steward was dead.
...
Although a sentencing date hasn't been determined, the plea agreement includes a recommendation for the mandatory 10-year sentence.
...
[I've heard of emotional reactions and also of chess boxing, but this is ridiculous. -- I think "playing chess and drinking" may be questionable. rjo]

I like the image of Howard screaming obscenities at his computer in the basement.
Laimbeer was successfully coaching a WNBA franchise last I checked. Presumably on his tippytoes from the three-point line.
