Whatever did happen to you, Tom Durnan. A nice attacking player, if a little positionally unsound. A nice person, too.

Aye, Tom Durnan. I once achieved a won position as Black in a Nimzo-Indian against him, and he swindled me into a forced draw. I remember his impish smile and admired his resourcefulness under pressure, though I was a little less happy with myself after that game!

jonathan and i had doubts about whether jason would take care of business in the remaining 2 or so minutes that he had left in sudden death-- I probably would have choked. I didn't see the end, but I hear that jason pulled it out anyway. Congrats

Philip,
It was an ugly affair. Once I won a piece, I almost coughed it back up! My Chronos clock once again failed in the middle of the game, which required us to use a standard non-delay clock. I eventually do blunder my extra bishop in the endgame, and one of the extra pawns! There were moments in the endgame when I thought about asking for a time delay, but that would require me to accept only a draw. In the end, my clock was probably down to 15 seconds in a rook and king vs. king race. I had to be quick, and a little lucky with the timer.
I'm buying a new digital clock ASAP.

On the topic of digital clocks, does anyone have firsthand experience comments about the DGT Easy Game Timer Plus, which is on page C5 of the 7/08 Chess Life? It looks decent, but it would be nice to hear from someone who's actually used it.
I liked Nicholas Lesieur's clock which we used in our recent Weaver Adams game, which has small digits showing the 5 second time delay count down separately from the (larger) main time count down digits. Nicholas, if you're reading this, could you supply the name and model of the clock, and your own comments about it?

Ken,
That is a single time control timer. So if you play in sudden death, you'll have to reprogram it, as I understand.

For what it's worth, I've grown to like the Dual Timer a lot. It takes some getting used to, but once you've scaled the learning curve it's as effective as a Chronos, and very durable besides.

Phillip,
I think that I would have been more likely to throw my king if he managed to flag me. Especially if he managed to flag me with his rook still on the board, when a sure win turns into an ugly loss only because of a faulty delay clock.
