Exactly. I haven't been to your place in a while, but, there really is no walking "thing" from your area to anywhere else, actually. Is that changing with this construction?
But, I agree completely, get off the road.
In the spirit of beatdown... bicyclists who bike on the road right next to a bike path deserve a beatdown too.

Gotta disagree on the bike path deal. I ride bike a lot, and the path, while optional for a bike, is just that - optional. And law wise, there's nothing restricting a bike to a bike path. In fact, I have friends that bike a lot that refuse to take bike paths because they feel safer with cars on the road, than they do joggers / moms with strollers on the paths. Truth be told, the majority of the "close calls" I've had on a bike have all happened on a path.

Tani: I agree. I almost got hit while rollerblading by a bike on a trail, but they don't allow bikes on the freeways for a reason.
LW: They are putting bike paths on both sides. Halleluia.

I will dub thee as an exception to the reality!
I generally know what to expect from another vehicle/driver.
I really don't know what to expect from a bicyclist. It is not uncommon for cyclists to blow stop signs/lights weave throughout traffic, cross lanes, bounce from road to path and back... etc.
In short, the part of cyclists being on the road that I find beatdown-worthy is the seeming disregard for right-of-way.
This is simply an observation.

Thanks for excepting me from reality.
I know where you're coming from. Personally, I am _loathe_ to run a red light or similar stuff on a bike. I mean, I don't want to be "that cyclist". Walkers are the worst for me on a bike...they are seemingly the most erratic in keeping a straight line. Rollerbladers are the 2nd hardest simply because they take up the most space...all told, headphones are the worst enemy of all. They never hear you say anything.
All that said, crossing roads on the trails also sucks. I cannot tell you how many times I've waved cars through an intersection and have them stopped to then wave me through. I don't know if it's because they've hit other cyclists or not. I'm thankful, mind you, but a bit annoyed at times because by law, they don't need to stop, I do. And it's not consistent...so you always have to act the same way, lest you end up being, "that guy".

You may have been excepted from reality already and in far broader scope than previously alleged. Heed my warning for when I contemplated this complex abstraction, I in fact, resumed drinking heavily as a method of establishing a point of reference to what "is" versus what "should be" in no uncertain philosophical terms. But, given the indelible inebriation, I could never really put my finger on it much less my whole hand.
( I am studying Oracle performance optimization. I have an unmistakable right to toss a word salad every now and zen. )

Well, higher powers will be watching what activities take the most processing... and the stuff I deal with has a number of queries that will certainly raise big red flags. They do so much to return so little. I finally attained the needed unix access on the Oracle systems and can now Trace query perf like a dirty little S.O.B.
