That really sucks that they did this to you. I wouldn't expect that from them and that makes me sad. I thought about you yesterday, I know, sounds kind of creepy but it wasn't. I was at an L'Occitane outlet and I was thinking "this is the stuff Kristen likes, should I get it? I like almond stuff too." I didn't get it though but I regret now.

Hey Carla! I expected better from them, too. And next time you're in the store you should definitely get the L'Occitane Amande shower oil. I am obsessed with it! I have the full size bottle in my shower and travel size bottles stashed everywhere! Not creepy at all that you thought of me, I talk about the damn stuff enough that it is probably stuck in your brain, LOL

The Allure experience has been a mixed bag. I am and always will be grateful that they chose me. There are so many great beauty blogs out there that it amazes me that I even made the cut.
I wish they would have wrote about Ormonde Jayne. I really wanted to see that featured in Allure. It is such a stunning perfume house.
I was one of the lucky ones. The products they focused on are my favorites. However...my quote was the most cringe worthy. If you could have saw my meltdown in Barnes and Noble. Cavewoman could not console me. LOL
I hope that more magazines consider spotlighting bloggers. I would love to see my friends and favorites get some recognition. We know and love so many great ones.

I'm sorry that sub-par reporting has tainted your Allure experience.
This whole thing confirms the nagging suspicion I've always had regarding the magazines (that I still love)- they're pushing their own agendas.
Thank you for making the clarification. This just proves how important independent blogging is. I truly believe that we're all paving a new road that will drive a change in the media.

Kristen, thank you SO MUCH for posting the link to my clarification on the Mr. Clean thing. I really hope that between the two of us, we can get the word out. I am frankly horrified that people may read that tiny little blurb in the article and end up hurting themselves because key facts were omitted.
I was a little uncomfortable with the way they focused on that one tip during the interview process and wish now that I would have said something. I just assumed the MULTIPLE cautions I mentioned to the interviewer AND the fact checker would make it into the article. I feel even stupider because I have been on the other end of the phone in situations like that (having been a journalist myself for several years, though not in the beauty industry), so I should have known better!
And of course, my list of "favorites" got mangled, too. In fact, when I saw the discrepancy between what I remembered saying and what appeared in the article, it really made me wonder to what degree this had happened to the rest of you! (I assumed it HAD happened, I just didn't know how badly!)
Argh. I am thrilled they picked my silly little blog for the article, but kind of mortified by how it turned out!

It is such a shame that supposed "reputable" magazines have stooped to the level that they have. Why do they twist your words into what they want to say.
Ridiculous.
I was once quoted in WWD about a beauty show I was attending (Ex*tracts). I mentioned to a reporter that a lot of the exhibitors at the show were upset that the show wound up being more about making connections than showcasing their products. In the article it appeared that I was upset that my products were not selling - when in reality I was just there as an attendee to see what new beauty products were coming into the market.
So, I totally understand how you bloggers feel - and you are well within your rights to feel that way. It is very brave and honest of you to speak out about it ladies!
WTG!

I've been doing similar interviews over the phone for my beauty internship, also with a recorder. It's nearly impossible to mess up quotes that way! I 100% agree with Gaia, these mags have their own agenda for sure. And as a huige fan of Allure, that's pretty sad. :-(

I think over the years, I have felt Allure losing its integrity, your story just confirms my suspicions. I will definitely think twice before buying something recommended by Allure or any mag for that matter. Who knows if they are getting paid for pushing that product or if it really works and there is no hidden agenda?!
I LOVE your blog by the way, yours is linked from mine. This is my fave beauty blog. I would love it if you linked me as well.

This is my first time reading your blog. Which I was brought to by Allure. I'm glad that you have spoken out about how they've made mistakes within the article. I'm one of those people who almost always believes what I read. I know, it's sad. But your entry was an eye opener for me. Thank you! I'll for sure be coming back to read your blog.

Let me just say that I love your blog (I've actually been a long time reader but never knew what to say before to introduce myself). I'm glad you spoke up about this Allure incident. I believed them about the "Beauty Junkies" article until I read your side of the story today. I think it is a travesty against your work. Maybe, you can write in to them and hopefully they'll correct their mistake.
Also I hope you don't mind, but I referred to you in my first post on Blogger (I'm still a newbie when it comes to blogging). I want to add you to my blog roll and I just wanted to check if that's okay with you. I'm still green with blogging etiquette and stuff lol.

I am enlightened to see that you have informed your readers of the mistakes made by Allure magazine. I actually was brought to your blog through the "Beauty Junkies" article, and expected to see some form of sheer appreciation for the publicity the article gave you. But it is nice to see that you have brought the issue of misrepresentation of your interview up. I hope that more readers of Allure can be informed of the mistakes.
I still respect Allure as a great magazine that I look to for the latest and greatest in Beauty Products, but I will take what I read now with a grain of salt.
You seem to be very dedicated to giving honest opinions to your readers. You have actually inpsired me to create my own Beauty Blog, as I am also an addict.

I'm sorry, but does ANYONE expect anything other than sub-par journalism--or ANY kind of journalism for that matter--from a beauty magazine? These things are one step away from catalogs. But shedding a little light on the reality of how this particular sausage is made is always a good thing. Sorry to see you got hosed.
And don't nobody go puttin' Mr. Clean on their bodies!!!

I hated that happened to you, as well. I have loved Allure, since the first magazine came out! Shoddy reporting, for sure.
Didn't they also get your Shu Uemura shalow number wrong? I looked it up and it seemed it was 350, not 370. Did you notice that? Or am I wrong?
