Gravatar I love these kinds of soaps, but I usually don't ever use them because they are so pretty! I have a stack of Lush soap that I bought several years ago and I still haven't used them. Their current use is making one of my bathroom drawers smell pretty.

Gravatar I haven't tried them yet. For more soapy goodness, you should check out my soap blog!

Gravatar The family actually lives about 5 minutes from the University of Maine (where I go to college). I saw the show and had remembered a bright purple shed on a nearby road. I looked it up on Google, and lo and behold it was them! The soaps are amazing, and they are the sweetest people ever!

Gravatar Yay! I love cold process soap. It's the best thing for your skin. I'm a hobby soapmaker myself, and am absolutely addicted to the craft and the product.

Gravatar Oh my Godddd - my younger sister and I stayed up until 3am on Christmas Eve watching this show trying to imagine what our lives would be like if we lived the way the Winters do. We were fascinated, yet a little horrified. I'm 23 and my sister is 16, and though we agreed that the family seems extremely sweet, humble, and happy, if we were in the eldest daughter's shoes, we'd carry just a teensy bit of resentment against our parents. I actually feel sorry for the older children in many ways, but I suppose that's only because I've grown up in a "typical" family that promotes and encourages an independent young adulthood.

Glad the soaps are great, though!

Gravatar Love homemade soap! You really need to try etsy.com for them too - lots of variety!

Gravatar My husband and I are having an argument and would like you to help one of us win. LOL I was saying how good a deal the price of these soaps were and that they were probably huge and he made the ridiculous claim that it isn't a good deal because you don't know the sizes. So, I want to know, how big are the soaps? My argument was that no one would sell tiny soaps and that they would have to be rather large. DH said (and I quote) "you could be lathering up with a tootsie roll." Doesn't that just make you want to prove him wrong? LOL

Gravatar Sarah - Same here! I have plenty of soaps that are currently scenting drawers rather than keeping me clean. Just can't bring myself to use them!

Joanna - I loved the cupcake soap that you posted about this week!

Chiara - That is so funny! That purple shed is hard to miss, LOL.

Christina - I definitely see how soapmaking could become addictive. I have toyed with the idea of buying some materials and giving it a whirl, but I know I'd be sucked in, whipping up batches of soap in the middle of the night!

Jessica - I too was alternately horrified/fascinated by this family when I watched the show! They seem a lot more "normal" off camera...Andre and Tzietel post occasionally on Television Without Pity, and have been answering many posters' questions about the family. They have dreams and ambitions like the rest of us, and it seems like the parents are encouraging them. I hope so!

Rose - Etsy is so dangerous! I start looking around on there and before I know it, it's 2 am and I've ordered enough stuff to keep some of the sellers in business for a year, LOL.

Stephanie - Your husband is funny! The soaps are a medium size, bigger than hotel soaps but just a smidge smaller than, say, a bar of Zest. They are indeed much large than a Tootsie Roll! I measured them for you - each bar is 2"x3"x1". At 2 for $8.50 it's a pretty good deal!

I should also add that the soaps in the photo are blocks of soap before cutting. Let me know the outcome of your little battle with hubby!

Gravatar Handmade soaps are the best to use and in my opinion, the most exciting. I have been a loyal fan of Sabon's handmade soaps - they have both Olive Oil and Glycerine based soaps in a wide variety of scents (and gorgeoud colors!). Many of the Olive Oil soaps have helped even out my skin tone (the Mud soap, atually Dead Sea Mud!) or provide unique and sublte scents (the Rose Petals is my favorite). It is definitely worth checking out and compared to other soaps, their prices and quality cannot be beat...enjoy!

Gravatar Handmade soaps are the best and in my opion, the most exciting to use. I have become a loyal fan of Sabon's soap (Sabon actually means "soap" in Hebrew). They have a wide variety of Olive Oil and Glycerine based soaps and many of the Olive Oil soaps help treat various skin conditions or just give you delicious and unique smelling skin (I am partial to the Mud and Rose Petals soap - both do wonders evening out my skin tone). Compared to other handmade soaps out there, Sabon cannot be beat...enjoy!

Gravatar sorry for the double post!

Gravatar I am interested in their products. I can't get the link to work and I was wondering if you had another site or an email? Thank you
