Gravatar Must know - how do you get rid of splotches, or prevent them. I always get dark dark in the little corners where my fingers meet my palms, no matter how hard I scrub.

And then there was the unfortunate incident of the spray fake-tanner that I did NOT aim the required 12-18 inches from my skin. Apparently, when you spray the aresol 3 inches away from my legs, you end up with orange polka dots.

Gravatar I had a splotch the other day and I put nail polish remover on a cotton swab and it got rid of it.

Has anyone tried the Nivea lotion with self tanner? It claims to pass the fragrance test. I really can't stand the Jergen's scent.

Gravatar I have to say, I am one of the most accident prone when it comes to tanner, and the other day at my Target some lady told me that I wouldn't be sorry if I used Boots. I bought the lighter of the two instant tan shades, and truthfully I haven't had any splotches. It goes on really smooth, looks pretty natural, and even works well on my face.
If you do another review, I would like to know what you think of it.

Gravatar Nice write-up Kristen. We cosmetic chemists continue to look for molecules to replace DHA but haven't had any luck so far. Perhaps soon though.

As for preventing blotches that's just a skill you have to figure out. The chemical reaction starts happening right when you put the ingredient on. It's slow so you can still wipe it off. But if you put more in one spot, it'll make a darker color.

Gravatar I love the Bare Bronze line!

Gravatar I was actually complimented on the smell of my lotion the other day - and it was self-tanner! It was Bath & Body Works' Glow and Steady gradual tanner. It's pricier than the Jergens I used to use, but I'll keep paying for it if only not to stink!

Gravatar I've been using the bath and body works gradual tanner for a few days now and so far I'm pretty happy. It's VERY gradual, but worth it for the scent. The enchanted orchid blends well with the DHA (they don't fight in this one). It is a little to greasy for the face, so I'll be checking into L'Oreal for that.

Gravatar I haven't ever experienced any trouble when it comes to self tanner probably because I have found two AMAZING products. If you want to smell and look fabulous you must try Napoleon Perdis Summer Lovers Self Tanning Mousse and Dior Bronze Self-Tanner Shimmering Glow Body. Both will leave you smelling and looking FAB!

Gravatar First the scent, or let's be honest, smell. I am a big fan of Xen-Tan, and their many formulas have smells ranging from cherry to chocolate to vanilla. Also, if you combine the dark tanning lotion with some neutral body lotion (Eucerin, for example), the smell is reduced.

Now, for the splotches. My technique, not at all original to me, I am sure, does work. I take one half of a pair of non-latex surgical gloves -- the thin purple ones work best for me -- and apply the self tanner first to the exposed hand. Then I move on to the arm, the shoulder, leg and any area I can reach comfortably. By this time the treated hand is dry enough to cover, which I do by peeling back the glove just enough to insert the hand with the tanner on it. I then apply the lotion to the new hand and all of the areas accessible to that hand. When I get to the feet, elbow, etc. I make sure to cut the tanner 50/50 with body lotion. No splotches, and no tanned palms.

Gravatar Recently I received an email directly from SeneGence, makers of Lipsense entitled: A bronzing Makeover for Endless Summer Sun. The tip talks about ways to use the SeneGence products to keep your tan looking good for a longer period of time. This article will explain how to look tan and refreshed for a longer period - past the summer fun months…

SeneGence has several products that will help you keep that healthy sunny kissed glow. Here are a few of them:

» Shea Butter body Bronzer - skin stays tanned approximately 5 to 7 days.
» MakeSense Foundation - Choose summer tanned shade - Stays all day until removed.
» SeneDerm Translucid Loose Powder - “Dark” shade provides a matte tanned look. Stays all day until removed.
» SeneDerm Translucid Loose Powder Bronzers - Shades: Silver Rose Dew, Copper Mist and Bronze Dust - Stays all day until removed.
I have used all of these and they all work as SeneGence advertises. The Loose Powder is a favorite. Especially the Bronzer powders. I apply the Medium powder over my foundation and then I use the Bronzer powder as a blush. It gives the face a sun kissed glow.

You can purchase all of the SeneGence LipSense products at http://www.senegence.com/celebritymakeup
Have a great day!

Gravatar Hi,
I just wanted to add that new self-tanning products that are launched will smell better than those that are currently on the market. Thanks to advances in self-tanning and fragrance technology, cosmetic scientists are able to better mask the DHA's odor as well as provide a real-looking tan.

Gravatar I used to get mystic tans and would get sick from the smell. I decided to create my own self tanner. It took a few years but it is tan/not orange. The fragrance is amazing and I made it with vitamin e to moisturize the skin along with vitamin a. The main base is aloe vera jel. If you have ever tried to rub on a self tanner it can be a mess. This Platinum Premium Tan is in a can that sprays a fine mist. I have a friend help me if I spray my whole body. It is great for travel and touchups on the go.

Gravatar Great information. I never knew that's how tanners actually worked! I do know I hate the smell though, yuck :-(
