Interesting information about Pantene. I used to use it as well and loved it, but stopped because of the rumors from salons about how bad it was for my hair. Maybe I will give it another go....thanks for the heads up!

I agree completely Beauty Brains, Pantene make a great range of well priced shampoos and conditioners. Check out their styling range too, which also comes highly recommended. There are just too many beauty snobs out there who think that if something is good value for money, somehow it can't be worth using.

Well, I'm not so sure. I've always had thick, strong hair. I'm from Brasil and I used to wash with "seda" that just now is coming here with the name "sunsilk". Well, since I moved to the United States I started using Panthene, and I knew something was wrong. It absolutely fried my hair. And nobody told me that. I started being suspicious since I wasn't doing anything different and ny breakage was unbelievable. So I went to my DERMATOLOGIST (not my stylist) and he told me to RUN AWAY from Panthene. In addition, although I understand that they have HUGE means of research, the ultimate goal of the industry is to SELL. If they ever found something that would restore our hair, would they ever tell us? My money is on NO. Just thought you should know

Virginia,
Thanks so much for the comments. Let me start off by saying that we here at the brains have nothing to do with P&G or Pantene. Whether you buy them or not makes no difference to us.
Your suggestion that a Dermatologist told you to 'run away' from Pantene is interesting but doesn't really mean much for most people. Dermatologists know about skin diseases and treating them with drugs, but they don't know much about hair and hair care. You should find out the reason exactly why he told you to stop using Pantene. You may have some chemical sensitivity that most of the rest of the world doesn't have. You shouldn't go to a Dermatologist for hair care advice however (unless you're looking for treatments for baldness).
You are correct that the ultimate goal of P&G is to 'sell' things. That's the same goal that EVERY other cosmetic company has, even Unilever (the people that make Seda or Sunsilk, and Dove, etc). Even Aveda, Tom's of Maine, Burts Bees. They are all trying to 'sell' you something.
The suggestion that if P&G did find something that would restore hair they would hide it makes no sense. That discovery would be the biggest thing in haircare since the invention of shampoo. They wouldn't need to advertise it and would make so much money they'd become a $200 billion company overnight. Talking about selling!
This argument is the same one that people say about drug companies. Do you think they would sell us a cure if they really found one? Of course they would. You could say the same about your dermatologist. Would he really cure your skin if he could? Why should he? If you didn't have any skin diseases you wouldn't need a dermatlogist. Why would he want to put himself out of business?
Similarly, you wouldn't need dentists chiropractors, doctors, etc. These arguments hold no water.
Stay away from Pantene if you like (there are plenty of other products that will work fine) but don't fall for alarmist propoganda about how it is bad for you. It's not. I challenge anyone to show how it is.
