I am also intrigued by the idea of FREE books! Too bad I'd have a heckuva drive for that one. I can't really justify traveling the length of the nation just for one book. Five or six books, maybe....
How far is it from here? Lessee...if I started now, I might arrived before school began....

I have passed the sign for this place many a time, and have never stopped. Some day, maybe soon (!) I will.

Sounds great! I'll have to ask DH if it's a reasonable drive from where we'll be in CT (or reasonably on the way to and from NYC, where we'll be going one day).
I love autobiographies/memoirs much more than biographies. I had a great time reading Betty Comden's autiobiography last year.

What a great place--free books, drool.
We did the Thomas thing several years ago when G was in the midst of The Frenzy. She had a lot of fun, but we didn't check the weather and E and I froze because it SLEETED. IN APRIL. Nasty. But totally worth it for G. Glad LG had the opportunity to meet his hero in person.

OMG!! How did I miss this post? brina and J went last night (see her blog) - I LOVE this place. Not only am I euphoric spending time picking my free book, I have often found neat stuff for school in the book shop downstairs - an esoteric place to put it mildly - have even gotten some of the old Nancy Drew stuff for 50c (I'm one of those I-don't-care-what-they-
read-within-limits-as-long-as-they
-read people! I loved ND when I was a kid - and now I'm a librarian: it didn't turn my mind to mush and more than it would have turned on its own)
ooh! think it's time for a Traveler run! Thanks for the reminder!
