in case anyone is still wondering why they're called penguins: http://www.answers.com/topic/penguin (it's just below the definition).
I'm in awe of your productivity. I barely managed to get myself out of the house by 11.

You rock, Lucy. And did you scroll all the way down the page? To where Wikipedia wonders if it's a false etymology invented by one of the proponents of the idea that Welsh prince Madoc was one of the discoverers of America. Which circles right back to our Madeleine L'Engle discussion! You get major bonus points for cross-post references!
And you think you've done nothing today....

Playing airport is my favorite thing!
Tell LG that Aunt YT works right.by.the airport. I get to look at planes come and go all day from the window in my office. And LG is on that window sill! It's a two-fer.

Congratulations on the productive morning (love the Lego tower).
Me? I've done the dishes, put in a load of wash and cleaned the cats' boxes. I should be getting ready for work, but instead I'm reading blogs, got to keep my priorities straight.

I'm thinking about folding laundry and taking a shower. Does that count?
Congrats on having such a productive morning. Every time we manage something like that I think it might be nice to do it every day. Needless to say, I'm still waiting on the energy to do it more than 1 day ever so often.
Love the conversations. LG is too cute.

I wonder if my advisor will be satisfied with an explanation that while I didn't do any experiments, I did look up how penguins got their names and how that relates to the works of Madeleine L'Engle...
Etymologies always seem to be made up (at least the ones I look up do).

Actually, penguins do relate to the works of Madeleine L'Engle since (as you may know) her last Austin book involved Vicky going to Antarctica, and was based in part on a trip ML herself took there.

Whoops, I should've read the comments more closely since PS already mentioned that book! But I didn't know that Madoc was a real person...learn something new all the time..
And the Lego tower is awesome...have fun with all the air travel.

That Austin Antarctica book was awful though, wasn't it? You could tell that L'Engle really, really had trouble envisioning Vicky approaching adulthood. But that last Poly book where she time-travels to Celtic-infused Native Americans was also awful.
Maybe we should declare this "Relate Everything to Madeleine L'Engle Day."

This is just what I needed to read on a Monday morning when we all rushed around to get to our respective schools on time. Aren't Vicky and Meg both always being urged to get over their moodiness and embrace the day? Doesn't Suzy bug the heck out of Vicky over breakfast one day in A Ring of Endless Light by being perky in the morning? I can't check, cuz I'm in my office on campus w/no L'Engle books in sight.

Yes, the last Poly and the last Vicky books were both pretty bad. I own them both, mind you (too much a L'engle completist), but they're my least favorites.
Yes, Amy, that all sounds very familiar! I have a lot more memories of Austins and Murrays at night, though . . . in the kitchen with liverwurst sandwiches, getting ready for bed and having serious talks, etc. etc.

See, that's the sort of thing that makes me think I should make a regular habit of getting up early.
Too bad my body doesn't agree....

I want to come play airport.
Tell LG that I can make cool airplane noises. They don't sound like real airplanes, of course, but they sound like the airplane noises in my head.

Sorry to sidetrack, but I have a burning DragonTales question. Do you know why Enrique is not on this season? I know this is a dumb question, and as an adult, I know the show's producer just decided to cut the character as uncessary or boring or whatever. But my daughter misses him. She conjures up new shows for him. She worries about him. She needs closure. We watch nearly every day, but I was wondering if we missed an explanation?
Sorry to digress in the comments. Glad you had a productive day, and so early too. And airport week sounds fun...I may have to introduce this as a segue. Yeah, Enrique flew away and so we're going to play airport.

I love airport week, which is kind of funny given the fact that I don't fly. Don't you love it when you get so much done in the morning? Then you can spend the rest of the day on the couch reading and STILL feel like you got loads done! I love that!

You know, I thought Enrique was a new character last year on Dragon Tales. Is he already gone again? Wilder often hides on the stairs when Dragon Tales comes on (no, I have NO IDEA why this should be so -- Dragon Tales was immensely popular back in our all-TV, all-the-time Connecticut days, but something happened between age two and age four, and TV-always-on and TV-almost-never-on) so we don't watch very often, and I never figured out where or why Enrique was introduced in the first place.
Uh, as for the morning, I've had a post brewing in my mind for a while about the various things that make for a happy day for me, and why it is that, even knowing what they are, I rarely achieve them. Almost everything on the list relates to having a productive morning. And did I mention that I never do that? Because -- yeah.

I'm one day late for "Relate Everything to Madeleine L'Engle Day" but I just have to say *I'm in.* Because obviously everytime I walk into the room I'm relating . . .
As I used to say as a child, she spells her name right.
Also, we had one of those productive mornings last Saturday. I kept looking at the clock all day thinking, how can it still be so early?

What is this morning thing you speak of? On a Monday yet! (Monday being my day off, I've not seen this particular day of the week before noon for some time now).
I love airport week, especially the lights on the runway.
Is that your new pellet stove in the background behind the control tower?

Sue, you are very observant! I'm saving the Saga of the Pellet Stove for someday when it's all resolved... by April, certainly. I think. Maybe.
