Would "I am happy and sad for you" be the right thing to say here?

Weaning. One of those things that's so complicated and bittersweet. Absolutely there's the sense of impending freedom and a return to a bit of privacy for you, physically.
But also it's suffused with the knowledge that your child is growing up and that there'll be fewer built-in opportunities to cuddle during a given day.
I can see why you're verklempt.

LG, if you can figure out a way to make your wish come true, you'll be a multimillionaire for sure!

You know it, CCW. Nutella and a spoon. And maybe a box of tissues.
I'm pretty sure that at least half the posts from the first year of this blog were typed with one hand while Baby Blue nursed. A new nom de blog? Alas, how right you are, Liz.

Whaa?? Oh my, it really is the end of an era. Congratulations? Condolences? Knock wood?
How about some mini-cupcakes to dip into the Nutella instead of a spoon?

I imagine weaning would be both freeing and heart-tugging. As are many of the milestones kids grow though. Sigh.

The years go by faster every year. Sorry. He's very lucky, he's still at the stage where they take a decently long time. But for adults...

Oh, LG. My heart breaks for you a little, because there's nothing like the end of another year of school to remind this mama that Every Year Goes By Even Faster Than This One.
I hope all the verklempt Blues have a great week.
Phantom, will you be posting a pre-release Harry Potter prediction comment area? I did the acres-and-acres-long website prediction thingie and then lost the link when my browser had to be closed quickly, but I assume we all have our various predictions and theories and are ready to set them down before the book comes?
Also, how many of us will be able to refrain from reading the last chapter first? I will step forward with embarrassment to admit that I'm likely to read first chapter, last chapter, penultimate two or three chapters, half-hearted attempt to pay attention to linear narrative for six or so chapters, rapid jump back to chapters in which final action is obviously taking place, then total re-read from the beginning.
After which I will gorge myself with chocolate chips while berating myself for not making the last book last longer, then logging onto PS in the middle of the night to jump on the spoiler thread.
If only I were planning the summer's dissertation work with this much attention to detail, no?

I know that one too. The cuddling. Sigh. Well, as with everyone, congrats and condolences.
I imagine I'll feel far less verklempt about the end of diapers. When does that happen. Soon, right?

Dive into that Nutella, PS. And give that toddler of the universe a hug from all of us.
And look forward, hopefully, to more nights of uninterrupted sleep.
Jody, I will read the book straight through. And I would love to see an HP predictions thread. I just read PoA to J. for the first time, and was reminded (I had forgotten) of the frequent repetition that Harry has his mother's eyes. I think Rowling said in an interview that this is significant. I'd like to see discussions of why.
(Also, I read a post elsewhere on the weakness of the plot in GoF, and had to agree - would like to know if others have reasons why it's not so weak. Won't elaborate here in a spoiler-free thread.)

Genevieve,
My guess is that Harry having Lily's eyes matters to Snape in the end. Harry mostly looks like his father, Snape hated his father and has a visceral hate for Harry, but at very close range, in certain extreme circumstances (on the edge of death, let's say) the sight of Lily's eyes is going to have an effect on Snape.
That's my guess, anyway.
Look, and we're off! :O

OK, OK, I'll put up a discussion/spoiler thread tonight or tomorrow. First I have to figure out how to get everyone (including myself) de-sanded and downstairs for dinner.
(Yes! I took the kids to the beach! Nobody drowned! I feel so damn competent!)

It took me a minute to realize that "desanded" was not "sanded". I was picturing you with a huge piece of sandpaper, rubbing down the whole family. My first thought was "oh, good lord, what did they get into?"
Then I realized that, once again, I am a dingbat.
