No school shopping for us! My secret? Living next door to a girl 2 1/2 years Annika's senior! Hand-me-downs are the best thing in the world. This fall, she scored an awesome Pikachu t-shirt.
So why are we moving? Good question.

Phantom, that son of yours is going to have a regular column in the New Yorker before I do. He's amazing.

I used to love Outlettery, but now I am never at NearbyDestination long enough to want to go there.

Hey, we were just at Swedish Childrensson clothes yesterday--the one near us, of course. They didn't have most of the things we wanted in all 3 sizes, which was good since we didn't want to spend much anyway. We did come away with matching floral velour blouses for all 4 of us, plus one in the next size up for when AJ grows out of size 100.
What's funny is that I buy sizes 80, 90 and 100 for the three girls.

Baby Blue is still in a size 70, alas. There were lots of stuff to like in size 80, but I'm afraid that may be another year or two away for her. The dress she liked was size 110 -- yeah, like that's gonna happen any time soon.
You know, the good thing about Baby Blue not growing is that I can justify buying higher-end clothes (at reduced prices, anyway) because she will wear them for so long. But the flip side is that between hand-me-downs, gifts from my mom, my occasional attempts to buy a few basics that can be used to make outfits from all her mix-and-match hand-me-downs, and my weakness for Swedish Childrensson clothes, she is in danger of drowning in clothes. By the time she finally grows out of 12-18 month sizes, she'll own enough clothes for quadruplets. Maybe I should move, too, Moreena!

Outlettery - one of my favorite places! First, because I am an avid consumer, but second, because one of my loveliest loveliest friends from college lives there now. (Though I suspect she avoids the outlet part of town on such weekends!)

Portland has the original Swedish Children's store headquarters. Every November when I go for my drunke- er shopping weekend with my friends I used to stock up. Then I found an outlet store in Lake Oswego. I used to tell myself that it would go through three girls, so it was worth it. None of my kids wore a 110 before first grade. It is great stuff that is soft and washes well. However, we have outgrown it. My kids prefer to pick their own stuff now and they never seem to like the Swedish stuff anymore. Sigh.

Phantom, my kids are drowing in clothes too, but I have a hard time resisting matching outfits at outlet sale prices.
I forgot to say that Baby E is actually in size 70, but in short-sleeved shirts and some other items I can get away with an 80. So the shirt I bought yesterday for her was an 80 (they didn't have it in a 70 anyway) and it fits fine. I figure they'll fit longer that way.
I just thought it was so funny that the 1-year-old, the 4-year-old and the 5-year-old are all in consecutive sizes. But that line of clothing is sized so things fit practically forever, at least on kids like my girls and Baby Blue.

Outlettery? This weekend? My, I am amazed you survived. My sister and I discovered that the time to go seems to be the 3rd week in August. The back to school stuff is out, but the people are still vacationing instead of shopping.
Although I had a similar issue with A and a dress at Swedish Childrensson clothes. What is it about the 110's? Do people stop putting their kids in their clothes for that one size???

Here in Scotland, digestive biscuits are THE thing. One can get them plain, chocolate, chocolate covered, orange flavoured, lemon flavoured, etc. They are delicious, but they aren't as good for you as the name might suggest!

Ooh, I've been planning a trip to Outlettery, too -- both to check out the Swedish Childrensson clothes for Ess on your recommendation, and to pay a visit to L.Lill for myself; their pants are some of the only ones I can wear right off the rack with a minimum of swearing and muttering under my breath in the dressing room... Instead, today we're going to one of the discount clothing stores across town in the hopes of returning before Agassi's match begins.

MC, I didn't know there was a L.Lill there! Just as well, since the kids were both in full-bore meltdown mode long before any shopping for me could have taken place.
Hey, if you ever want to meet in Outlettery some morning on your weekday off, I'll bring the digestive biscuits.

Hey, that's a deal that can't be beat -- Scribbler/Blues AND digestive biscuits! Once I get this frickin' freelance assignment off my desk, Ess and I would luuurve to meet you on a Monday or Tuesday. So maybe late September/early October?
As for L.Lill, I have to admit that I have only *heard* about their store in Outlettery. Haven't visited it myself yet. But once those freelance checks come in...

THEY HAVE L.Lill? Oh my gosh, I LOVE L. Lill. But I can only buy it when they have the 25% off the sale rack sale.

Chichimama, you can send those 110s this way . . . around here there are almost always hardly any clothes in sizes 100 through 120 or 130, and not many from 70 through 90. I figure those must be the most popular sizes. There are always lots of 50-60 and 140-up.
