Yes, yes, yes.
Thank you, Phantom.
I've been reading Cecily on this, and thinking of her is driving my feelings about the decision, but I hadn't thought to articulate that this is what the mainstream discussions of the decision are missing.

Thank you - I'd read her blog a couple of years ago, but I just went back and re-read. And then I smacked a couple of nasty trolls. I feel much better now.

Thanks for posting this--I am not a regular reader of Cecily's blog, so I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.
As someone who's been through a similar situation, I know I should post about it. It's so hard to dig up the energy, especially with the wackos who feel that it's totally okay to send harassing e-mails to mothers who've had to terminate their pregnancies.
It's just so exhausting.

Rhonda, I've been thinking of you when I read about this debate, too. And I wouldn't ask anyone to take on the trolls, since I am not taking them on myself and have no enthusiasm for the task. (I'm glad you do, Uccellina!) But I do think it's criminal that these decisions have been made without the input of women who have actually been through the experience. Cecily is right there -- why haven't the mainstream media found her? Oh, right -- because they're not frickin' looking.

Wait, mommybloggers are good for talking about Warner too. And drinking during playdates. Oh and arguing about breastfeeding, cosleeping, and potty training.
Every time any kind of debate like this comes up I use Cecily as an example. I was following her blog before she got pregnant with the boys. This was a heartwrenching time for her and a tremendous loss. It wasn't something that she took lightly. You are so right that her voice needs to be heard. Another one is Julia at Uncommon Misconception.

You are so right.
Some of the commenters at Bitch PhD have also had some amazing stories (some of which she's lifted up into another post).

Hey, Phantom: if you haven't already sent this as letters-to-the editor, you should! Thanks for linking to Cecily's post -- I'm trying to severely limit my blog reading, and I would have missed it if not for you.

I tried to tell Cecily's story to a bunch of conservative Anglicans, only to be called a liar (among other things).
It's so discouraging. Cecily has a powerful voice, and you are so right that it is one that needs to be heard.

My sister had this problem. Twice. Rick Santorum called her a liar while she was sitting in the room.
This procedure is medically necessary in a few cases, and should be an option available for the patient and the doctor (and nobody else) to choose.

I wish I *could* read Cecily's blog, but the net nanny has filtered it as "tasteless". There's an irony in there somewhere...

I know how to fix this.
We need a chain e-mail.
Now wait a second just hear me out. I don't think we travel in the same circle of dumb e-mail forwards but I seem to get my fair share of utterly ridiculous right-themed e-mails. I know what you're thinking. Diane, why don't you tell your co-workers that these e-mails are outrageously inappropriate and full of utter crap? Because instead, I take the time to hit 'Reply All' and debunk all the stupid junk I get sent (usually via snopes.com). - except for the ones that talk about Jesus needs me to 'pass this on 50 people'; I feel those don't even dignify a response-
But I digress....I know I have gotten more than one e-mail with hundreds of e-mail addresses that have seen it before me that talk about the horrors of Partial Birth Abortion and that if a women elects to have this procedure done and the baby comes out alive the doctor will have to kill it because that is what the evil un-caring mother requested. Yes, I too threw up a little just writing about such total nonsense. What we need are all the Cecily's out there to share their stories and then e-mail it to all their friends (and maybe put at the end that Jesus will send you a $20 Applebee's gift card for every 10 people you send it to).
Yes, I am being slightly sarcastic, but it would be lovely if in a few weeks I got an e-mail that I felt justified in forwarding!
