Welcome to the Commenting Pixie Party!

Gravatar This seems deep for a Wednesday afternoon. May I suggest pizza for dinner?

Is it bad that I have to gently remind Miss M a couple of times a week that she CANNOT marry her brother?

Gravatar I love such conversations! I overheard my 5 yo daughter telling her friend (a girl) the other day that they could marry each other, but they'd have to have a boy. (Because, of course, all lesbian couples have boys. Or at least the two at her preschool do...)

Gravatar Oops. That last comment was me--Dalia's a name I use when playing online boggle! I guess it's been a while since I've commented on a blog.

Gravatar BB is adorable. What a great conversation!

Gravatar So, she's been listening to Peggy Seeger's Engineer song?

Gravatar Verklempt.

You realize she may hold you to that promise?

Gravatar This morning, Z. decided when she grows up she wants to have four parents and four babies. I told her that sounded like a pretty good number of parents. (I didn't comment on the babies.)

Gravatar Smiling, S.!

Madeleine, I kind of hope she does. You know? I may not be able to model a successful work-family balance for her, but if I could help it happen for her when she is an adult, I would, and gladly.

Magpie, no. She's never heard it. She's decided she wants to be a materials engineer "because I found out about it on Fetch [With Ruff Ruffman] and I thought it was interesting." Yes, another great moment in parenting-through-television, thank you.

Gravatar You and I can hang out and watch our grandkids together then, as A announced the other day that she was going to get a very important job and I was going to watch her two kids and a baby. But at least she offered to host a family dinner every weekend...

Gravatar Sweet.

Gravatar It's always good to have a plan.

Gravatar Snuggly Girl is also planning to be an engineer (and she's a huge Fetch fan). So maybe they can have an engineering firm together. They could call it Blue & Snuggly and they could be toy designers. And you and I can nanny-share the babies and host the half-time quiz!

Gravatar Aww. Love it, and she really got me when she worried about not being able to tell which was the left hand.

I was wondering about the Engineer song too. But Fetch (great show!) makes more sense.

Gravatar This is really funny, because JUST YESTERDAY Arij was explaining to Anne that she can't marry mama, no matter how much she loves her.

Gravatar I'm totally swooning over BB.

Gravatar I'm an engineer with a baby! Well, my baby is almost five, but still. Tell BB it's a great plan.

The kids in my son's preschool class just had a very anatomically detailed discussion of how exactly two moms can have a baby. Apparently four-year-olds know a lot about where babies come from these days.

Gravatar I'm glad to hear of BB's interest in engineering and I hope she keeps staying interested and doesn't get discouraged. We need more women in engineering, science, and technology. It gets kinda lonely sometimes

Gravatar I don't remember ever asking questions like that when I was little. I did, though, announce to my mother that I was never having children, and I was absolutely right about that. Kids often know what they are talking about. BB is going to be an engineer. Yay!

Gravatar Oh, she is just so sweet it tugs at my heart. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story, Phantom

Gravatar I love this. So cute! And BB sure is smart.

Gravatar Awesome conversation!

Gravatar This was probably almost as delightful to read as it was in person. Almost. *grin*

Gravatar This is so cute. I love that you're teaching her progressive values at an early age.

Gravatar P.S.

Her pseudonym is the same as mine.

Gravatar such a wonderful conversation!

Gravatar “Or, if you marry a boy, he could stay home and take care of the baby.”

Thanks from the dad-is-stay-at-home-parent contingent!

Gravatar She is just too sweet.

Gravatar Ahhw. After reading the book "It's Amazing" which tries to be very open-minded about how babies are made (a short discussion of IVF, donor gametes, etc.), my daughter announced to my mom (yes, grandmother, who takes care of her) that she very much wanted to have children, and she wonders where she'll find the sperm. I think my mom told her that she would have to go to college first.

(and, I've told my daughter that I'm *not* watching her children, even though my mother watches mine. Maybe I'll change my mind by the the opportunity comes around).
