I wish I had something brilliant to add, but I don't. You are so right and it's sad. Very sad.

Excellent rant. I have worked at UCLA Medical Center for over 18 years. 10 1/2 years was spent in the Operating Room. I have seen the outcome of random violence, and the loved ones it effects, on almost a daily basis. So many people are chomping at the bit to blame police for everything. There has to be some responsibility placed on the person they are rallying for.

You know, when you first started this blog I wrote that poeple ( some not all) were the scum of the earth. I guess that's how that term came to be. You made an excellent argument. It's just that it's a common reminder that any hope for change is non-exsistant. In 1933, a Japanese writer commited suicide because of what he thought was a genicidal effort put on by Japanese Army in Manchuria. The cops aren't doing that, but some people are SO STUPID, I bet you they believe it.

you make an excellent point, and do a good job of documenting the scene to support it.... if you think about it, the real issue here is guns. i don't know your side of the issue, but it seems to me that this shooting, like Columbine and other more notorious shootings, happened in part coz of the easy availability of guns.

there is a lot of xenophobia and fear of "terrorists" meanwhile we are a country of armed and violent people- guns don't kill...people who can inexpensively purchase a gun in 2 days do. Perhaps it's easier to kill when one has experienced a childhood without basic necessities. the probelems are not going to be slved soley by the police force, incarceration etc. we need community solutions, we need conscious voters electing conscious politicians , we need grass roots volunteerism...we are a needy culture...
see Bowling for columbine which raises the question and explores how and why Canadians (who have more guns than us) have so few deaths by shooting in camparison...I know you are not a fan- but, maybe an objective look would enlighten.

Thomai - I'll try to TiVo it, but let's not confuse enlighten with indoctrinate.
For the record, I don't own a gun. I wouldn't tell anyone else they should or shouldn't own a gun. I would tell someone to try and be a person of good conscience and good character and never ever ever EVER shoot anybody.
To me, the debate on gun control is about both sides treating the sympton and not the disease. I think there does need to be regulation governing the ownership of firearms, but since I've already made my choice in not owning a gun, I'm comfortable in leaving the details to be worked out by the people who feel strongly enough about it to argue their point.
Oh, and it's really nice to hear from you.

hey, lovin the blog- photos and writing alike-
what i appreciated about my fellow Michiganders film was that the issue went beyond who has how many guns- and spoke to the underlying causes- it was also very entertaining.
Unlike Mr. Moore, I am NOT a member of the NRA,. he owns a gun, I don't. i don't think smaller guns and hunting rifles are the problem- It's what pulls the trigger i am concerned about. the look into how Canada was great- i can relate having crossed the river from Detroit to Wyandot many times whlie living in Mich. he explores the quaestions many Detroiters ask, "How come it's so clean, quiet and nice on this side of the same River?"

Bravo...really great comments....
My opinion: It all comes down to parents.....what are we teaching our kids. How are we instilling in them a sense of honor, respect and responsiblity. Where is that respect that kids should have for adults or authority?
I agree with Thomai when he says "I don't think smaller guns and hunting rifles are the problem - Its what pulls the trigger"
and how come his/hers parents didn't teach them any better?????
