Yes, you absolutely need a contrasting racing stripe color on the rubber sidewall.
No, it would not look stupid to have the heel stripe a different color. In fact, it's required. Try to match the heel stripe, stitching, and tongue color and your shoes are right as rain. Even if you don't do that, the more color the better.
Monogram: No name but something quirky. Like "42" (the answer to the meaning of life) or "code monkey" or "baconizmyluvr".
This is great...I've wasted a lot of time on this site now coming up with the perfect shoe. I agree that the contrasting heel stripe is key. I am leaning toward a simple white shoe with a blue heel stripe, blue stitching and a blue racing stripe.
