No love for Astronautalis?!? Now MY numbering system is off as well. Argggh! The HUMANITY!!
#1 Beirut is really starting to grow on me - in the same way that SHTYM grew on me.
#2 I totally and completely forgot to give a shout-out to Karl for that recommendation, as the song is only this show because he mentioned it on this very blog.
#3 If you like Beirut and SHTYM, you'll like Blizten Trapper.
#4 Quoting Belle from an e-mail she sent me r/g the Oct. 7th show, which also featured the Hot Snakes,"I have to admit that the Hot Snakes are a little 'too hard' for my usual tastes though." Got ya!
#5 Yeah, SHTYM are awesome. I like the new album released under "Say Hi", but not as much as I like all of their previous albums. Just really solid stuff.
#6 Yeah...
#7 Again, yeah...
#8 Funny note - JRO does NOT like this song, or anything else by The Golden Dogs. She confuses me more than you do.
#9 They kind of remind me a bit of Okkervil River and the Golden Sholders, but almost get into Coldplay territory. Not quite, so I don't feel like a sissy listening to The Minders like I do when I accidentally listen to Coldplay, because I certainly wouldn't listen to Coldplay on purpose.
#10 One of the students I work with confessed that not only does she not like Tom Waits, she HATES Tom Waits. I am convinced that she is actually a witch and am waiting to throw her into a lake to see if she floats or sinks.
#11 It's a hit or miss album, but there are a couple of good tracks.
#12 I am programming robots to take over the world. This is just a warning.
#13 Tubeway Army came first, which is almost into Kraftwerk territory in terms of being ahead of their time. Hearing those kinds of sounds in the mid-1970's (although, granted, this was 1979) was kind of unheard of. We take it for granted because it's become a bit of sound cliché, but we're spoiled. Funny thing, I don't much care for this style of music, but I have to acknowledge and admire that this was NOT easy to do back then. So, yeah...
#14 It's a really great song. Just a lot great musical stuff going on.
#15 This was the song that you were supposed to hate. DAMMIT!!
No mention of Tom Lehrer's It Makes A Fellow Proud To Be A Soldier for Veteran's Day?!? Come on!??! I was awaiting the hate calls for playing this song, but it didn't happen. I will make you a Tom Lehrer fan if it kills me.
The show ALMOST didn't happen this week because I was just exhausted, so I did it live as a compromise. Until next week...

"I Just Dropped In to See What Condition My Condition Is In."
Yeah. Yeah. Oh Yeah.
No sweat on the credit; there is no limit to what you can accomplish if you don't care about taking credit.
Tom Waits is teh awesome, obvsly. Loved him on Fernwood Tonight.
