You are right about the colours, they are lovely - but I won't be buying their yarn, whether or not I have a willing mule!!
Of course, I will buy the needles - because they have at least seen fit to supply them O/S. I reckon they changed the name to try and minimise the (constant) calls they get to ship the yarn o/s, when they do ship the needles. I think they want to pretend they are from a completely different company!!

I am with you - why want something from a company is so weird with their shipping - apart from the gorgeous range in your haul.
I would love to feel the yarn - is it as good as it looks?

Ironically, I have not yet tried Knit Picks(though you are tempting me), but it surprises me that they don't ship internationally. I'd like to point out that it's cheaper to build (in the US) with steel shipped from Japan than to use the domestic stuff. So how can it be that expensive to ship yarn?

I'd place my money on the yarn price/postage thing. I like some of their yarns and their customer service (here in the US) is good. If there's anything you want to order, I'll gladly accept delivery and then send it on to you.

The customer service is catch-as-catch-can at KnitPicks. Donna Lee must always get the good ones, while I get folks who tell me ordering on Monday is too close to the upcoming weekend to expect the package to be shipped by then (??) and another person who didn't even knit and so couldn't tell me anything about the yarn beyond what was printed in the catalog. I go back and forth on Knit Picks. I'm not sure their yarn holds up as well as I'd want it to. The savings are supposed to be because there's no middleman, ie, yarn store, just direct from manufacturer to customer, but I think some savings is reflected in the quality of yarn itself. Their shipping is slooooow and their lack of international shipping annoys me, too, on principle.
But--you've got the yarn, enjoy it!!

I live in Germany and I would like ordering from them. They have good yarn bargains and even books & kits I'd like to buy - unfortunately, I have no one in the US who could ship or bring these things to me. I am so disappointed they do not ship outside the US.

I suppose you could ask them why they don't do international orders. It might have something to do with customs regulations (Varying widely from country to country, and madly complex when it comes to shipping organic substances. I've given up shipping yarn to Oz because customs ALWAYS quarantines it for six weeks.) or international credit hassles or the fact that they are a small company and might not have the capital to expand that fast. But I can only speculate. If anyone is annoyed enough to ask, would you let us know?

I've been wondering why the needles got renamed - maybe Rose Red is on to something! Loved the edging on the crochet pants

It is, indeed, a mystery, Bells, why KP doesn't ship internationally. I do like their yarns, especially Wool of the Andes and the laceweight yarns. Also, my first experience with Swish DK was wonderful...I made the Hypoteneuse shawl with that, in Ash, and it's SO lovely and soft.
Off to CA today...wonder what fun things I'll find this trip?!

It always amazes me the kinds of things you can't get sent internationally... I wanted some pencil toppers to use on dpns (remarkably handy), but there weren't really any in Australia. I did find some on Amazon, but had to rely on a friend to forward them to me, since apparently due to warranty reasons, they couldn't send pencil toppers to Australia... who knew?
Still isn't a day full of lots of yarn - even balls of mystery black - fantastic?

I also buy yarn and then forget what I had in mind - even with a small stash. And I never cease to be surprised when this happens. Making notes would be good, but that requires a system.

Oh! It all looks lovely! I have to agree on two points, their colours are wonderful and it is annoying that they don't ship internationally. Personally I see it as a challenge and have set up a mail forwarding service for exactly this kind of situation. The postage from the US to AUS costs quite a bit though... On the up side, a couple of us should be getting out own Knit Picks goodies in the next short while - it really helps if you know someone (or you know someone who knows someone) who lives in the US.

I don't understand their policy, either. I mean, if I am willing to pay overseas postage, it can't be that much extra time to fill in Customs forms. And if knitting magazines in French and German can fly from Switzerland to my mailbox, why not Knitpicks yarn to Australia? Strrrrrange.

I so agree with you. I love their colours but it is such a hassle to get my hands on their yarn. Only succeeded once

Maybe a comment back to them about opportunities to instantly expand their market during the GFC.... with a 'please, I want to give you my money' and see (ha!)
so I'm working exclusively with Bendigo this winter. Have you tried the new luxury yarns? Just love that if I order in the morning I can open my door the following morning to a bag full of yarn.
Love the crochet pants too!

you really can't go wrong with black, anyways, can you, so it's all good!
Interesting that another commenter mentioned customs and quarantine - I've had many (stop sniggering, not that many!) shipments of wool and have never had any held by customs?
You're spot on about Bendigo, tho'. particularly now they are introducing some new lines and colourways - great value for money and good quality, sturdy yarns

In addition to not shipping outside USA and Canada, they don't even sell downloadable PDF patterns without a shipping address in USA or Canada...I had my eyes set on Rona, but I guess I'll knit some other shawl, then.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm knit picks.
Black is a lovely staple. Maybe a vest or another cardi? Or another shawl? Or a scarf... (A baktus or three for Christmas presents...?)

I totally agree with you about how arrogant their approach seems. Their colours do look lovely, but I'm not sure that my irritation with them wouldn't somehow seep into my knitting...
