Oh yes - I have one too - mine is v necked with 3/4 sleeves - worn every season except the jeight of summer and I have a white short sleeeved one and they're both 5ish years old and starting to 'go'! I am heartbroken and would have bought them in every colour (and a few more black ones) if I could - what am I going to do when they go?

Aren't Trinny and Susannah great? I love their rules!
I've just found what I think may be my 'bestie' white vest to go under cardigans. The shop it's from is closing down soon and I'm seriously thinking of going back to but (at least) another one the same, even though a) it's expensive and b) I'm not supposed to be spending any money at the moment.
Your story of your top's imminent sad demise is a salutory one - I hope you find a new 'bestie' before this one has to go!

I wear that look, only with a white t underneath my cardigan or under a button down shirt. I had a favorite pair of jeans. Very comfortable, made my butt look good, could be worn with heels or sneakers. They were the perfect color, the perfect jeans. And they split in a spot that cannot be repaired and I was devastated. They cannot be replaced and although I have moved on, I still think about them and find myself looking for another I can love as much.

I know exactly how you feel, but my bestie is a black scoop neck 3/4 sleeve top with small gathers around the neck. I discovered a couple of weeks ago that it has a couple of holes in the sleeve - moth holes I think (egad!! Lucky all the yarn is in ziplock bags!!). So sad!

I feel your pain.
I do find Giordano t-shirts to have that clingy-in-the-right-way quality. I think I got my last lot from Cotton On Clothing; four shops in Canberra
Also, if you wanted to spend a little more, Esprit t-shirts last forever; I've got 3 long sleevers I bought 3 years ago which have been in high rotation and are only now starting to literally wear out.

It's very sad to lose a staple...
On the Nigella theme, I like her look too, and have noticed in some of her shows, the cardy is stitched down.

Maybe Nige can give you some tips on where she gets hers?
My bestie was a silvery grey cardi - I have a whole of batch of grey cardis now but nothing is ever quite like the first love!

I have more T-shirts than sense--but some of them are just beloved--best fit, best color, best everything.

I feel the same way about a pair of faithful run after kids in the park but make you feel special shoes. Alas I am now feeling the ground through the shoes and there are two holes. I went back to the shop that I got them from and like you was willing to buy a replacement pair. They no longer sell them but I got a pair of new to be faithful shoes, strangely not black but pewter but they feel like I am wearing a warm pair of socks... So there is loads of hope for you... a new faithful may well be heading your way.
Thanks for your lovely comments... in the scheme of things I am a very lucky lady but have just been on a emotional rollercoaster no more lows I hope for a while only highs to be had.

I feel your pain! I had a black v-necked jumper that was just perfect. Like you say supportive, flattering, my dream jumper. In fact I was wearing the first time G and I went out together. It passed on last year! I was gutted. But, I still have it, in a drawer under the bed!

Can you make one?
I have a nice slash neck 3/4 sleeve tshirt that you can see the lycra strands sticking out of because I wore it that much. I might have a look around for some stretchy t-shirt fabric and make a pattern from my old one.
I have a couple of black v-neck tops for work too and one of them barely covers my middle now due to washing and drying so often.

Oh, I feel your pain. I can't find my favorite Gap t-shirts in the stores anymore. I need to resort to online, where my size is never available. I am getting a bit desperate, as I realize that there is a small window of opportunity for t-shirt buying in the Spring. Once it has passed, there are only odd colors and sizes left. In fact, I feel sweat breaking out on my forehead as I speak of this...

I have a skirt - navy blue, poly-cotton knit, elastic waist - that is closing in on 20 years old. I wore it for ten years at below the knee length, then had it hemmed up a few inches to just above the kneecap. The elastic in the waist has been replaced twice. I wear it summer and winter, and it's the first thing into the suitcase when we travel. It's my "go to" garment when I don't know what to wear. And the stains don't show too much. I've quit wearing light colored skirts. Food just loves my lap. And when old blue goes, I will be bereft!

I *had* 2 beautiful t-shirts from Banana Republic. Gorgeous colours and lovely fit. They didn't stretch into pleats across my boobs, they scooped gently in around my waist, they finished an inch below my hips and the fabric hung beautifully. Perfect jeans t-shirts in lovely colours.
I had to throw them out at the end of this summer, sob. They were frayed at the neck, stained and beyond wearable for anything bar painting the house. We don't own the house so we're never going to paint it. I needed new shirts and needed the cupboard space so these went. I still miss them.

Hindsight is great isn't it? Don't you wish that by the time you realize you adore something you've bought, that you bought one in every colour. If only we knew at the time.
I say don't be heartbroken, don't be rid of her, her time isn't up. When she's not fit to be worn in the real world, then she's got about another 20 years of life left in her as gardening clothes!!!

I am notorious around these parts for buying more than one of everything, especially black tshirts. You never know when you will meet another one! I hope you find something soon!

Oh, that's awful, I feel that way about things I love to wear too, I hate it when they wear out. I love T&S, I've just borrowed their latest book from the Libary and watched their new series.
Hope you can find a replacement.
