Gravatar Good to see you are feeling sanguine about it. Haven't used this yarn but have had similar (but more unhappy) experiences with machine washable wool.

Gravatar A certain hard-won calm...It comes with time, doesn't it?

Gravatar Nope, I still hate throwing away perfectly good knitting (or crocheting) - but you are right, it does have to also make you happy, and if you won't wear it, then I guess it's not good knitting, is it!

Am excited to see the FO!

Gravatar I admire your courage - and will look forward to the next version. I'm pleased you're not putting it aside, as I suspect I'd be tempted to do, because this colour is so lovely.

Gravatar This is what keeps me from getting serious about a sweater: All that work and you still have to frog! I admire your commitment to getting it right. I know you'll have a sweater to love. I'm afraid that if it were me, it would spend decades buried in a closet!

Gravatar Oh, how disappointing ... but as you say, thank goodness for the top-down construction, and at least with crochet there is no tedious picking up of stitches. I'm really slack with blocking (I tend not to do it) - but I'm glad I have been warned! Can't wait to see the new improved version!

Gravatar Indeed, hooray for top-down crochet! It stretched to below bottom length? Homygawd!

Gravatar It *is* nice, when these things happen, to be able to show the fiber who is the boss and fix them so they work again! Go you!

Gravatar oh you know i feel your pain, and the more i think about it the more i think you are right re the effect of very open lace work. i will keep this in mind for my bendigo luxury FLS....

Gravatar Always better to have something you love than not!

And to quote my gran - you don't have time to do it right, but you have time to do it over? You're doing it right - a much better use of resources!

Gravatar I did a scarf out of Luxury and it grew a tiny bit, but not really noticeably... although, it was all cabled, so I'm not sure if that might have an impact?

Gravatar Too true. It is all about getting it right but also about enjoying the process!

Gravatar It's because it's very open crochet.

Mine stretched a good 8-10 inches. But it also fluffs and pills like crazy so I don't know whether it's worth ripping it back and re-edging it.

Gravatar Such a shame it dropped on you like that, sending fixing thoughts your way. A girl does indeed need to be happy!

Gravatar Yeah, lace is a crazy bitch at times! At least with crochet you don't have to worry about picking up all those stitches onto needles - much easier, I imagine! Glad you're in a good mental space about fixing it - looking forward to the pics!

Gravatar It looks so beautiful in that photo. I'm looking forward to seeing the FO, and feel how luxury crochets up.

What a relief it is a top-down cardi.

Gravatar This is definitely one of those occasions when top-down is an absolute winner! You've reminded me that I don't think I ever blocked my Liesl. I finished it when I was on holiday last year and just put it straight on. Now I'm a bit concerned about washing it!

Gravatar Must.take.page.out.of.Bells'.book.

You have a great attitude about things that don't turn out as intended. Just breathe deeply, go back, and fix it. You're right that a girl's gotta be happy, and if that means some extra work, well, at least the work is a pastime that we knitters are addicted to!

Gravatar My mother attempted to teach me how to crochet once. What a disaster. I guess we can't all be good at everything?! Gorgeous cardy by the way!!!

Gravatar I can NOT wait to see it--and I still think you're brave!

Gravatar oh top down is definitely the best. That makes it easy to be so philosophical about the fix I imagine.

Gravatar I'm so happy to actually be able to comment on a project, because normally, I don't know what the heck is going on. But I actually HAVE crocheted blankets and clothing before, and I really think it's the open weave that's the bugaboo here. I actually abandoned a beautiful blanket pattern, because once finished, it stretched so far out of shape that I was embarrassed to gift it to the intended recipient. And I dropped down in gauge also, plus I tend to crochet a bit tightly anyway -- I blame extreme type A personality -- so I really totally attributed the failure to the weave in the end. Not that this helps much, but you are a brave soldier to redo it. Although it is worth it, because that is a really cute cardigan. If it wouldn't mean giving up sleep, I'd try it myself.

Gravatar So glad it was top down, that is the best way to nit I have decided. I love the little leggins you made and your choice for the TdeF knit along is fab, I likey that pattern!

Gravatar Juat saw your TdF project - it's gorgeous. I look forward to following it's progress over July : )

Gravatar Ay! That is tragedy! (I never bought the "there's more to knit/crochet thing" about mistakes, because I've always wanted to move on to something new...) But I do hope it's all worked out in the end! Show us pics!
